Research Summary

Virus-receptor interactions; neuropathogenic viruses. Focused on studying the pathogenesis of the human polyomaviruses, JC Virus (JCV) and BK Virus (BKV).

Past or Present Projects Available:

JC virus, host/cell interaction in progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy; Evaluation of the role of cytokines in regulation of JCV gene expression; Characterization of JC virus entry into human glial cells; Formation of virus-like particles from JC virus VPI protein to study receptor specificity; Increase in BK virus infection of HEK293A and vero cells: possible transcriptional effect of the drug cyclosporine A through AP-1; Binding to viral promoter in dunlop; The effect of Cyclosporine A on BI virus infection; The role of COX-2/PGE2 in activation of latent papilloma infection; Determination of the structural and functional role of JVC 5-fold pore and viral genome release
